Blenders

A food blender these days is an essential kitchen appliance. With all different types of blades and attachments, you can now easily chop, slice, shred, grind and puree nearly every food type.

With so many blenders to choose from, where do you start? One factor you should consider before purchasing is the size of the space you have to place your blender. Its all very well buying a fancy blender that does everything apart from cleaning your teeth, but if you don’t have the room to accommodate it in your beloved kitchen, then its no good to you. So size and portability should be an issue, along with power. Always look for blenders that have at least 400 watts of power – some food types are hard to breakdown, so if you haven’t got enough power, it’ll be the blender and not the food breaking into pieces!

Think about the type of food you will be blending. Most blenders on the market nowadays have the capacity to take on most blending chores, but not all can crush things such as ice for frozen drinks etc. Ask the supplier what the capabilities are before you purchase.

Most food blenders come with a knife and dough blade and/or shredding and slicing discs. Blenders add a great way to prepare food in your kitchen and below are a few pors and cons

    Pros

-Chopping, slicing, shredding, grating and puréeing large batches of food.

-They come with a wide range of accessories and different blades so you can slice or shred thinly or thickly, for example.

-Some models have fancier blades that allow you to cut chips or come with features such as a dosing hole in the lid (to pour in liquids) or an extra wide feed tube (so you can put larger items in without having to chop them into smaller pieces first).

    Cons

-You still have to prepare your food (and sometimes chop it into smaller pieces).

-They’re generally not as good as a kitchen machine for kneading dough, whisking or whipping.

-Lots of accessories mean they can be harder to store or harder to assemble.

    -They can be noisy.
